Our New Home

By | Building, Uncategorized | 2 Comments

We’re super excited to let you know that we will have a new school building in 2014. Brisbane City planning approval arrived this week and this means we can move ahead with the purchase of 38 Berwick Street Fortitude Valley and start the process of turning it into a state of the art facility that will help us deliver an even better educational experience for our students.

The history and location of the new building is also a strength. The building was owned by the original drummer for Regurgitator and has played host to recording sessions by iconic Brisbane bands Powderfinger and the Go Betweens as well as a host of others. We are both happy and proud that MIC can play a part in continuing the strong musical history of the site.

The location is right in the heart of Brisbane’s music and arts community. We share a street address with the Judith Wright Arts Centre, The Institute of Modern Art, Youth Arts Queensland, BIGSOUND music conference, and Foot Stomp Music (Warner Music) and we are just a short walk from The Zoo, QMusic, APRA/AMCOS, Tym’s Guitars, and a host of other music industry businesses.

A copy of the plans is below and we’d like you to have a look over them as we know you will become as excited about this project as we are.

VALLEY VIBES FESTIVAL

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

For this entire semester our Year 12 Business students have been working away on producing an all ages event that the entire city can be proud of. Valley Vibes will take place next Sunday June 16 at the PCYC. With a budget of $13 000 the Year 12s have secured the cream of Brisbane’s independent rock scene including DZ Deathrays, Millions,  Gung Ho, Call the Shots, Set the Record, Dollarosa and House of Giants.

The students have been responsible for every aspect of the event: booking bands; promotion and marketing; graphic design; artist liaison; security; sound and lighting; hospitality; photography and video.

Last year’s event attracted an audience of 150 and this year we are anticipating an audience of 300 – 400. Tickets are still available and you can get them through MIC.

Students will be required to attend between 9 am and 10 pm on Sunday June 16th. Not all students are required for the entire day so check with them to see what their roster is.

All of the staff involved have been impressed by the creativity, commitment and effort demonstrated by students involved in the musical. Stay tuned for more information and details about the screening of the musical later in the year.

SOUND FUTURES DINNER WRAP-UP

Our major fundraiser for the year has come and gone and we are so happy to announce that we have raised $12 000 for the Ken Wood Scholarship Fund. These funds will allow us to continue our scholarship program for 2014.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people involved in helping stage the event: those who gave generously of their time; those who donated prizes for the raffles and auction; those who donated directly; and those who bought seats or tables at the event.

The night was our best to date and special mention must go to our current and past students, Georgia Cupples, Michael Meyer, Dylan Coles, Nick Zischke and Sahara Beck for providing world class entertainment on the night and those students who helped with the bar, set-up and pack-down.

Thank you one and all!
