Come Together – Beatles Tribute Fundraiser

By | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Come Together is an opportunity to do just that, come together to; celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles tour of Australia; celebrate the musical and artistic talents of the students of Music Industry College; and help MIC raise funds for our new building.

Performances of The Beatles music will be brought to you by the very talented students of MIC. The art and film students will also present a visual feast to compliment the performances. This is a show not to be missed.

Our goal is to raise $5000 on the night.

There will be snacks and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) on sale throughout the night as well as a raffle of Beatles themed items.

We will also be launching two ongoing fundraising campaigns during the evening:

Our “Just Another Brick in the Wall” campaign is a not too subtle reference to the Pink Floyd classic. At MIC we pride ourselves on providing an education that is not the standard in the box variety. This campaign allows you to support our new facility by buying a brick. There are three levels of brick – Gold $500; Silver $250; and Bronze $100, of course you are welcome to buy more than one brick.

“MIC’s Mates” is an annual membership of $50. MIC’s Mates will receive regular emails; 50% discount on two events of their choice per year.

We also have the naming rights for our recording studio, venue and learning spaces up for grabs. If you are interested in sponsoring any (or all) of these spaces talk to Brett Wood on the night.

Event Details:

Date: June 11; Time 6:30pm; Venue The Old Museum Concert Hall

Tickets – $10 pre-sale or $15 at the door; MIC Students who are not performing $5

Tables of 6 – $300 includes two bottles of wine, 6 savoury and two sweet canapes per person. Only 10 tables available.

Get Industry Ready at AMPLIFY

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Music Industry College is solving that age old problem of how to keep kids happy during their school holidays – at least for those who would like to have a career in the music industry – by putting on AMPLIFY, a 3-day workshop series that isn’t just a boring old talk-fest. The Workshops include time spent with Brisbane’s finest industry workers and musicians, including Evil Eddie (Butterfingers), Jesse Barbera (Velociraptor, Jeremy Neale, Feelins), Maggie Collins (Triple J, DZ Deathrays, John Steel Singers), Dom Miller (The Zoo), Charles Thomas (The Medics), Stephen Green, Ed Guglielmino and more.

The workshops will cover everything from Songwriting to Releasing your Music and Finding your Place in the Scene. This isn’t just your average, talkfest, panels or otherwise, this is hands-on, “bring your guitar and write a song/get advice on how to improve your song” or “bring a laptop and write a bio with the help of the best publicists in the biz” type of workshop.

Music Industry College is an independent high school based in the Fortitude Valley PCYC (for the moment, a brand new facility has been purchased in Berwick St, Fortitude Valley) and allows opportunities for students to collaborate with other students, form a band, record music, produce work for other students and work in real industry situations such as all ages music venue The Hive, Starving Kids record label and online music blog, Dearhead Press, all while gaining their Year 12 certificate and possibly an OP and other industry qualifications.

AMPLIFY will take place from Tuesday 1st October to Thursday 3rd October and will cost $100 for the 3 days, which will also include lunch each day. It will run from 12:00 Midday to 4:30PM each day, with 2 sessions taking place per day, 6 sessions in total. Places for the Workshop can be secured through the MIC website at http://www.mic.org.au.
